Herbalism is the study and use of medicinal properties of plants and plant extracts. Herbalism is also known as botanical medicine, medical herbalism, herbal medicine, herbology, herblore, and phytotherapy.
In some traditions the scope of herbal medicine is sometimes extended to include fungal and bee products, as well as minerals, shells and certain animal parts.
Pharmacognosy is the study of medicines derived from natural sources or natural herbs (the art of making medicine out of herbal nutrients, plants, tree stems, etc).
Many cultures (in Africa, Asia, etc) which derive their medicine from herbalism have been influenced by the pharmaceutical western (European) principles of medicine making. Which has led to the replacing of herbalism medication with pharmaceutical products.
