The Age of Enlightenment (or simply the Enlightenment or Age of Reason) was a cultural movement of intellectuals in 18th century of Europe and America, whose purpose was to reform society and advance knowledge.
It promoted science and intellectual interchange and opposed superstition, traditions and religion. intolerance and abuses in church and state. Originating about 1650 to 1700.
The discussed concepts of the age of enlightenment looked at religious practices, dogma, responsibilities and traditional beliefs as constitutions that are designed to restrain the human abilities of free thinking and free expression. And via the free practiced experiences of science, reasoning, and the advancing of scientific knowledge, the age of enlightenment thought that humanity will be able to reach the highest potential of their inner abilities.
The Enlightenment was marked by increasing empiricism, scientific rigor, and reductionism, along with increased questioning of religious orthodoxy.
Age of enlightenment was a period using the collective ideas of western science, so that one may be able to come to the conclusion of who he is, and his purpose in life.
This movement led to the forming of societies that depends on synthesis, pharmaceutical drugs, genetic modified foods etc.
The wide distribution of the printing press which was invented in Europe in 1440, made possible the rapid dispersion of knowledge and ideas which precipitated the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment flourished until about 1790–1800, after which the emphasis on reason gave way to Romanticism’s emphasis on emotion and a Counter-Enlightenment gained force.
The 18th century lasted from 1701 to 1800 in the Gregorian calendar.
During the 18th century, the Enlightenment culminated in the French and American revolutions. Philosophy and science increased in prominence. Philosophers dreamed of a brighter age.
