In the federal agreement which was signed in Lancaster (England) 1962 Constitution,
whereby only Buganda was granted full federal status, and the other kingdoms semi federal status by the United Kingdom.
When was the federal agreement signed?
This agreement was signed on the very day when Uganda had it’s first independence in 1962.
In this federal agreement Buganda was granted a full federal status and the other kingdom a semi federal status.
Each kingdom in Uganda was given the right to fully govern their own human rights, and cultural affairs with out the interference of England.
What was Buganda’s role in the agreement towards the other kingdoms?
Buganda also proposed the amending of the 1962 system, so that all regions of Uganda have “full and equal federal status”.
There was 14 federal states or regional governments of:- Acholi, Buganda, Bugisu and Sebei,
Bukedi, Bunyoro Kitara, Busoga, Karamoja, Kigezi, Lango, teso, Tooro, West Nile and Madi.
Obote destroys the federal agreement:
When Obote emerged forth, desiring to rule Uganda as a president,
the only threat and obstacle which stood in his way was the authority that Buganda,
and the other kingdoms had in the area of governing and administrating their own affairs via the Federal agreement.
Obote responded by using the army led by Idi Amin, to storm the Kabaka’s palace on May 24 1966,
and the Kabaka fled to Britain.
Obote started to employ members of parliament that had no interest in the federal agreement of Uganda:
In 1967, the Parliament converted itself into a constituent assembly, which, among other things abolished all the kingdoms,
and destroyed the federal agreement alliance.
Obote overthrows the federal agreement using his presidential office:
Then all the power and authority of Uganda took a centralized direction of dictatorship.
From that time until now, Uganda has been ruled by dictators (presidents) who insist on ignoring the needs of the majority,
and choose to feed the greed of the few self elected politicians that are money hungry, and corrupt.
