(TT) Sweden will stop all aid to Uganda. Money that would have gone to build up the poor north of the country is suspected to have ended up in private pockets.
15 million of the missing money is Swedish. It was the country’s own National Audit discovered that half of the money in a fund of 200 million seems to have gone for something completely different than what was intended.
Assistance funds would have been used to build schools, roads and health clinics in the impoverished and war-torn north of the country. Instead, they are suspected to have been diverted and ended up in private pockets. – We now require a full understanding of these irregularities, says Ms Carlsson (M).
The money in the fund comes from Ireland, the UK, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. According to the report, 15 million of the missing money is Swedish. Having taken note of the report from the Ugandan National Audit stop now Sweden suspended all assistance to the Ugandan government. According to Ms Carlsson report suggests that the Ugandan government officials and perhaps even politicians are involved.
While she points out that it is positive that the Ugandan National Audit Office has been able to detect these money scandles.
