An ecumenical council (or oecumenical council; also general council) is a conference of ecclesiastical dignitaries and theological experts convened to discuss and settle matters of Church doctrine and practice.
The word “ecumenical” derives from the Greek language “οἰκουμένη”, which literally means “the inhabited world”,– a reference to the Roman Empire that later was extended to apply to the world in general.
The Ecumenical council started with governing and controlling the Christian Church from Rome, and then from that point it upgraded into a council that exercised it’s authority over the other spheres of life around the world.
Through the Ecumenical council, the Christian Churches were controlled, regulated and also forced to depend on the Catholic Church for the interpretation of the scriptures. The members of the church were not allowed to own bibles, all the scriptures were confiscated by the catholic Church.
People never had a direct connection to God, they were not even allowed to pray to God on their own. All the members had to go through the Authorities of the Catholic church for them to be able to speak to God, to Pray to God, to repent of their sins etc.
