Rockerfeller was the richest man in history, he was the first Amercian to hit the status of a billionaire, a business man and an industrialist that knew how to invest his finances.
The scripture declares that the fear of God is the beginning of all wisdom.
Rockefeller was a radical giver, from his very first paycheck, Rockefeller tithed ten percent of his earnings to his church, and tithing was the fundamental principle upon which he built his success.
As his wealth grew, so did his giving, primarily to educational and public health causes, but also for basic science and the arts.
Because of the spiritual wisdom that Rockefeller had achieved through the principle of tithing and supporting God’s work,
he became a philanthropist (a person who donates and gives finances and material things so that he may improve the welfare and quality of humanity).
He gave nearly $250 million to the foundation, which focused on public health, medical training.
He revolutionized the study of medicine in the United States. Rockefeller also provided financial support to Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Brown, Bryn Mawr, Wellesley and Vassar.
Rockefeller gave $80 million to the University of Chicago under William Rainey Harper , turning a small Baptist college into a world-class institution by 1900.
His General Education Board , founded in 1902, was established to promote education at all levels everywhere in the country.
It was especially active in supporting black schools in the South.
His fortune was mainly used to create the modern systematic approach of targeted philanthropy with foundations that had a major effect on medicine, education, and scientific research.
Rockefeller was a man, who knew how to meet the needs of his generation, through generous giving of his finances into medicine, education, and scientific research,
Rockefeller contributed to the support and development of medicine, education and science which was really needed during his time.
At the age of eighty-six, he penned the following words to sum up his life
“I was early taught to work as well as play,
My life has been one long, happy holiday;
Full of work and full of play-
I dropped the worry on the way-
And God was good to me every day.”
