Usually when people hear the word “metal”, they think of coldness, ruggedand a dead material.
Therefore, if it’s not music, then how does metal relate to art?
Well “Xavier Sayago” from Burkina Faso, has used art to put life into a
lifeless material for years.
Starting of as an art painter in 1993, Xavier Sayago has always been
interested in capturing the emotions of his social surroundings in the form
of creative art. He mixes human behavior (e.g. walking, dancing, cycling) with the an animalistic nature.
However, being an innovative thinker and wanting people to connect more to his art, Xavier decided to go in to sculptural art around 1995.
Why use metal and why do sculptural art? Xavier Sayago: In Burkina Faso we have a shortage of trees, but yet a excess of scrap metal being disposed on a regular bases. Therefore, I prefer to use metal for many reasons, for example it’s a cheap material, recyclable and a way for me to contribute to the well being of the environment.
Furthermore, like most men I enjoy a challenge, and working with metal challenges me to put some life and emotions into a lifeless and cold material. |

Plus doing sculptural art allows me to put more volume, and emotion into my art work, in a 3 dimensional aspect. |
