The Society of Jesus (Latin: Societas Iesu, S.J., SJ or SI) is a Christian male religious order of the Roman Catholic Church.
In 1534 Ignattius and some other young men commited themselves to the service of this commision, and in 1540 Pope Paul III approved the formula of this instittute.
The members are called Jesuits and are also known colloquially as “God’s Marines” and as “The Company”, these being references to founder Ignatius of Loyola’s military background and members’ willingness to accept orders anywhere in the world and live in extreme conditions.
The Jesuits engaged in evangelization which was strictly done with the intentions of bringing the hearts of the people back into the act of being faithful to the Roman Catholic Church and the Roman law.
The purpose of the Jesuit movement was to reform the catholic church from within and to counter or defeat the Protestant Reformers, whose teachings were spreading throughout Catholic Europe.
One of the strategies they used was the principle of forgivness, as the scriptures in the new testaments says; “forgive those who havewronged you”, so the Jesuits movement went around arging the people to forgive the wrongs deeds of the Catholic church.
And the effect of forgivness resulted into the state of geting many people to act towards their returning back to the Catholic church, inspite of all the wrong deeds and mistreaments that the Catholic church had inflicted upon it’s members.
As part of their service to the Roman Church, the Jesuits encouraged people to continue their obedience to scripture as interpreted by Catholic church or doctrine.
Ignatius is known to have written: “…: I will believe that the white that I see is black if the hierarchical Church of Rome so defines it.”
The society is engaged in evangelization in 112 nations on six continents. The Jesuits are known for their work of founding gymnasium schools, colleges, universities and seminaries, intellectual research, and cultural pursuits, and for their missionary efforts for Rome (Catholic church).
In fact most of the European schools of gymnasium, early universities, and colleges in most of the parts in Europe were founded by Rome, and they were also paying tribute to Rome (Catholic church), until that time when they rebelled and became independent from Rome.
