Social stigma

Social stigma, a severe social disapproval of personal characteristics or beliefs that are against cultural norms.
Stigma may then be affixed to such a person, by the greater society, who differs from their cultural norms. One who behaves in a way that spoils the identity of others.

Social stigma can result from the perception of mental illness, physical disabilities of changing moods, lack of moral teachings, diseases such as leprosy (see leprosy stigma),
illegitimacy, sexual orientation or committing of sexual immorality, gender identity, or criminality.
<Not being able to maintain the state of intimacy, which leads to breaking of vows, false suspicion, fearing to begin new adventures or relationships, out bursts of false accusations against others, possesing negative traits which distracts the harmony networking system of a community etc>
Erving Goffman defined stigma as ‘the process by which the reaction of others, spoils normal identity’.
The three forms of social stigma according to Goffman are:
Overt or external deformations, such as scars, physical manifestations of anorexia nervosa, leprosy (leprosy stigma), or of a physical disability or social disability, such as obesity.
Deviations in personal traits, including mental illness, lack of fatherhood upbringing, drug addiction, alcoholism, traits of Anti semitism, and criminal background are stigmatized in this way.
