During this time of 40 days; This is also a time of changing or transforming your bad habits into good ones.
In the case of what you should eat through these forty days, try to stay a way from eating meat and pork. Let it be one of the things you sacrifice during this 40 days.
In the month of Elul There is a holy presence called “Shekinah” that God releases through out this month of Elul (hebrew sixth month), as we move into the next month called Tishrei.
The seventh month on God’s time or Hebrew calendar is when a Jewish new Year begins.
That is the reason why it is very important to use this opportunity as a time changing the bad unholy habits into holy habits or behaviors which lines up with God’s will.
On the very first day of the seventh month on God’s calendar called Rosh-hashanah, we begin a new year.
(that is 30 days) counting from the month of Elul when the 40 days of fasting began.
Now! On the 10th day in the month of Tishrei, (that will be 40 days exactly).
The 10th day which falls in the month of Tishrie is the day of Yom-kippur (the day of Atonement)
That 10th day of Atonement being the final day of judgement, when God judges every individual according to their deeds.
If one’s deeds were evil, then that becomes what he will reap during the new year that begins then. If one’s deeds were righteous before God, then he or she shall be given according to his righteous deeds.
You have these 40 days with the help of the holy presence of God that comes with the month, to change those unholy habits to holy ones.
