Diwali, also known as Depavali, is an Indian festival of lighting small clay lamps filled with oil, through this festival two main gods are worshiped;
The first god is goddess called Lakshma being the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity, light, wisdom, fortune, fertility, generosity and courage.
The other god is called “Ganesha”, and the elephant head makes him easy to identify.
During Diwali, many wear new clothes and share sweets/snacks with each other in honor of the festival.
Some Indian business communities start their financial year by opening new account books on the first day of Diwali for good luck the following year.
Diwali is a significant 5-day festival in Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism occurring between mid October and mid November.
Diwali marks the end of the harvest season in most of India. Farmers give thanks for the bounty of the year gone by, and pray for a good harvest from the gods for the year to come.
Diwali is an official holiday in India , Guyana (the northern coast of South America that is culturally part of the Anglophone Caribbean ), and Singapore etc …
