1: hab·it noun ˈha-bət a usual way of behaving : something that a person does often in a regular and repeated way.
There are good habits which are attained from good moral behaviors, and there are bad habits which derive from immoral behaviors.
a : a behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition or physiologic exposure that shows itself in regularity or increased facility of performance.
b : an acquired addiction or bad habits <a drug habit, a habit of watching pornographic movies, a habit of eating junk food etc>.
In the American Journal of Psychology (1903) it is defined in this way: “A habit, from the standpoint of psychology, is a more or less fixed way of thinking, willing, or feeling acquired through previous repetition of a mental experience.”
Old habits are hard to break and new habits are hard to form because the behavioural patterns we repeat are imprinted in our neural pathways.
But it is possible to form new habits through a frequent repetition of new moral habits.
Habitual behavior or habits often goes unnoticed in persons exhibiting it, due to the fact that; when a habit has been formed and repeated for so many times, the person who is performing that habit may loose conscious or awareness of his habitual behaviors.
<he is always using foul language and foul expressions>
And in such a case, such a person needs to get conscious teachings or thinking which will bring the awareness of his bad habitual behaviors to surface or understanding.
From the realm of understanding what one’s bad habits are, then one can also change or transform the bad habits into good ones.
