Nimrod was one of the sons of Kush. The name Nimrod means; “The one that rebeled against God”
Kush was the son of Ham, the lowest and least important of Noah’s three sons.
Nimrod came from a lineage which was cursed by Noah: “Cursed be Canaan, a slave of slaves shall he be unto his brothers” (Genesis 9:20-27).
Due to the act of sexual immorality that Ham committed against his father (Noah), this was the reason why Noah cursed Ham’s descendants the Canaanites.
Ham begot Kush, Kush begot Nimrod…
By birth, Nimrod had no right to be a king or ruler.
But he was a mighty strong man, a dictator and sly and tricky, and a great hunter and trapper of men and animals, one who could use his spiritual powers to practice divination against others via the conjuring of the 72 demons -(Genesis 10:8-9).
It was said: that Nimrod wore the coat containing the 72 expressions, which he stole by trickery from his father.
The coat was an inheritance which came from Adam.
Truly he was a man of might, because he was clad in the garments of Adam made of tiger skin, and was able by means of them to lay snares for mankind and beguile them.
Rabbi Eleazar said: ‘Nimrod used to entice people into idolatrous worship by means of those garments, which enabled him to conjure forth the 72 demons, to conquer the world and proclaim himself its ruler, so that mankind offered him worship.
His followers grew in number, and soon Nimrod became the mighty king of Babylon. He also built the tower of Babel, and his empire extended over other great cities like Erech Accad, calneh, Assyria Egypt (Mizraim), Nineveh, Pathros, and Shinar as in Gen 10:8-13 & Isaiah 11:11.
Nimrod did not feel very secure on his throne. He feared that one day there would appear a descendant of Noah’s heir and successor from the lineage of Shem, and would claim the throne.
He was determined to have no challenger. Some of Shem’s descendants (the lineage from whence Abraham was born) had already been forced to leave that land and build their own cities and empires else where.
