May – The month of May and its meaning

The month May was named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman era goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May.
The month also has a lot of Special devotions to the Virgin Mary which takes place in May according to the catholic rituals, where Mary is honored as the queen of heaven or queen of may.
Eventually, the entire month was filled with special observances and devotions to Mary, including the building of the may alta or house altar which is a practice done for Mary.
The honoring of Mary in the month of May derives from the pagan worship know as mother and the child.
May is the fifth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars and one of seven months with the length of 31 days.
This month sometimes falls around the season when passover is celebrated on the hebrew Jewish clendar.
May also falls around the same time when the Hebrew month called Iyar occurs on the hebrew calendar.
May is a month of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.
In this same month some countries in Europe celebrate a pagan feast known as may pole festival.
