A prideful person is one who lacks respect and humility, one who behaves arrogantly, one who has failed to pay respect to the written and unwritten laws of authority.
Pride is always connected to hubris, self ego and the traits of narcissism.
In its modern usage, hubris denotes overconfident pride and arrogance which derives from the immoral traits in one’s genetic traits, and the lack of knowledge or the lack of moral instructions.
Hubris is often associated with a lack of humility.
Korah who rose up to resist Moses’s authority behaved in a prideful manner, Nimrod decides to build the Tower of Babel to oppose God’s authority and thus his act became an act of pride. The state of hubris (pride) often implies that suffering or punishment will follow.
The proverb “pride goeth (goes) before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (from the biblical Book of Proverbs, 16:18) is thought to sum up the modern use of hubris.
Hubris is also referred to as “pride that blinds,” as it often causes a committer of hubris to act in foolish ways, ways that are always void (empty) of common sense and mutual respect.
Their is a saying that declares: before a person is condemned by the heavenly court, or before a person is punished by God’s wrath, that person’s behaviours in a prideful manner first, and then judgement which condemns that person’s character follows.
Pride should not be mixed up with confidence or boldness, because a person who is confident may be getting the inspiration of his/her confidence from a spiritual authority that governs his life, whereas a person who is proud may disregard every authority (written law and un written law) including the heavenly authority.
