The Hebrew word Edom means “red”, and is derived from the name of its original founder, whose name was Esau, also referred to in the book of Obadiah 1:1-21.
Edom meaning the one who sold his birthright for a bowl of red stew, being the opposer who was hostile against Jacob (Israel).
The story of Romulus and Remus:
According to the Jewish historians, Romulus, the founder of Rome was from the lineage of Esau. Read the story of Romulus and Remus.
From Edom came forth Idumaea, and Herodian dynasty.
Esau and Jacob were twin-brothers sons of Isaac, Isaac being the son of Abraham.
Esau and Jacob were twin brothers as it is written in Genesis 25:24-26.
Their father was Isaac the son of Abraham, and Abraham being the son of Shem.
The prophecy declared;
two nations are in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your body.
This prophecy was given during the time when the mother of the children went to inquire about the children’s future when they were still in her womb.
Greece deriving it’s roots from Edom (Esau):
On the side of the Greeks who claimed Judea (ruled Judea in Israel), we had the Hamsmonean dynasty.
One authority states that the Romans owe their origins to the Albanes of Latinium in Peloponnesus (southern Greece) descendants of the Laconian-Spartans and Ausones migrating to Italy where they intermixed with the Sabines and Ombrians.
Alexander the Great King of Macedonia and one-time conqueror of much of the then known world claimed descent from the Temenidae descendants of Temenus one time king of Argos in Greece.
In the Book of Maccabees and History of Josephus it is related how both the Spartans of Greece and Romans of Republican Rome established contact with the then-independent kingdom of Judah,
and how both claimed to be related to the Jews through a mutual descent from Abraham.
Rome deriving it’s roots from Edom (Esaus):
The Edons and Odomants are believed to have been descendants of Edom.
Read about Esau being the father of Rome and achievements of Rome in our world system today.
The “Kiasos” were a mystical dynasty of the Edones and have a name recalling that of Kas or Kos the national god of Edom.
Julius Kaesar (i.e. Caesar) gave his family name to the Rulers of Rome.
In his honor were retained the titles of Kaiser and Czar.
Alexander the Great, Caesar, and several of the Roman Emperors are considered by some to have been truly great men who contributed to the advance of civilisation.
Edom spread into the other parts of Europe:
In addition we find elements of Edom in Italy, Spain, Gaul, Britain, and elsewhere in Europe.
We deal with this elsewhere. In most cases the edomites settled as a minority though they often may have reached to leadership positions in most of the western organized political systems.
Descendants of Esau settled in Babylon and in some of the Phoenician Cities such as Tyre. Both Babylon and Tyre in Scripture are associated with Edom.
The early Christians were from the lineage of Edomite (Esau):
According to Don Isaac Abarbanel (1437-1508) a tradition existed that many of the early Christians were Edomites.
One authority who dealt with this matter Ernest L. Martin, 1932-2002.
Martin claimed (“The People That History Forgot”, 1993, USA) that most of the Edomites from Edom (southeast of Judah) and many from Tyre went to the West (Italy, etc) where they became Christian.
Martin admittedly had an agenda. He was making an historical-cultural point rather than a racial one.
His book says that Non-Israelite Samaritans (originally from Cutha in Babylon) along with other Middle Eastern peoples (such as the Edomites) migrated en masse to western regions of the Roman Empire.
They became Christian but retained something of their previous practices and influenced early Christianity with their pagan traditions, and pagan festivals.
