The Canaanite languages or Canaanite dialects are one of the two subgroups of the Northwest Semitic languages, the other being the Aramaic language.
Aramaic (אַרָמָיָא Arāmāyā, Syriac: Arabic آرامية) is a Middle Eastern language or group of languages belonging to the Semitic subfamily of the Afroasiatic language family.
They language was spoken by the ancient peoples of the Canaan region, being the Canaanites.
During the developing early stages of the Aramaic tongue, the sons of Cush, Cush being the son of Ham (from whence the Canaanites descend from Genesis 10:6- 19), developed the language as symbolic sign of communicating their worship and reverence towards their gods.
They also used the language for the fulfillment of their divine services that they did via their spiritual religious rituals.
Through the language a lot of religious, spiritual and divine duties of the ancient religion of Mesopotamia (Harran, Ur of the Chaldeans Genesis 11:27-31 ), were administrated.
Hebrew existed as a mother tongue before Aramaic:
The Semitic lineage of Shem (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) continued with the Hebrew tongue which was already existing before the Aramaic language came along.
During this time, the Canaanite culture and the Aramaic tongue had a very strong influence over the region.
So the continuation of Hebrew (the Hebrew tongue, culture and religious practices), had a lot of challenges, due to the fact that Aramaic was widely spoken and commonly used tongue of the Canaanites.
After the flood of Noah, Hebrew started to become a sacred language (liturgical language) that God used to communicate to those He Had chosen to pass down His moral values as an inheritance.
From Adam it followed the lineage of Noah after the flood, from Noah it was passed down to Shem, from Shem it was passed down to Abraham, from Abraham it went down to Isaac and from Isaac it was passed down to Jacob who brought forth the 12 tribes of Israel.
The Aramaic alphabet was widely adopted for other languages and is ancestral to the Hebrew, Syriac and Arabic alphabets
