Esau was a twin brother of Jacob, both being the sons of Isaac, and Isaac being the son of Abraham.

1 Chronicles 1:34-36 (NKJV)

The Family of Isaac –

Esau was mentioned in the 1 Chronicles 1:34-36 for the sake of bringing out the historical facts, and repeated circle of events that relates back to Esau’s choices, way of living, and lineage through which he produced his children.

³⁴ And Abraham begot Isaac. The sons of Isaac were Esau and Israel. ³⁵ The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah. 

³⁶ And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zephi, Gatam, and Kenaz; and by Timna, Amalek.

Genesis 36:1-3

The Family of Esau

36 Now this is the genealogy of Esau, who is Edom. 

² Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite; Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite; ³ and Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.

Esau went and married women from (Canaan and Ishmael), the lineage which was already in conflict with God’s plan for Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

From Esau came forth Korah (who opposed Moses, to extent that God decided to open up the ground to swallow him and his family).

And Amalek was the son of Esau that turned into a nation which kept, picking wars and fighting Israel all the time.
