Platonic love (often lower-cased as platonic) is a term used for a type of love, or close relationship that is non-sexual.
Its symbol would be the white rose.
It is named after Greek philosopher Plato, though the philosopher never used the term himself.
Platonic love focuses on the beauty of the soul, and not the body which can lead to carnal love.
As the soul focuses on inspiring, encouraging and stimulating the virtue beauty of the other soul through true wisdom, eventually union with truth becomes conceivable.
Union with the truth is conceived through spiritual oneness of the soul being intimate with another soul, excluding the body,
But on the other hand: deception or wickedness also enters the world through sexual immorality.
This type of love (platonic love) enables the relationship and the intimancy which is shared among two souls to channel their emotions and feelings of love into a higher spiritual presence which governs their faith in God.
What is permited and allowed in platonic relationship?
Partners in such a relationship can use physical objects, and prayer to stimulate those emotions of love and intimancy,
but at the same time avoiding and staying a way from the violation or immorality which can bring about the state of perversion or carnal love – which is subject to the fallen nature of the human body.
Platonic love excludes the act of physical sexual intercourse in a relationship,
but yet in it’s state of being close and intimate,, it enables the relationship to be able to channel those emotions or energies of pleasure, friendship, love, erotic, passion into the collective consciousness (cosmos) of the universe.
It is said:’ that through prayer (using prayer as a medium or vessel, invoking the right Names of God, usage of prophetic declaration of Scriptures, the right application of God’s mitzvah during God’s seasons on the Hebrew calendar),
Two souls in such a relationship of platonic love can transform the perverted energies of sexual immorality or sexual energies, into positive energies that contains a stimuli which brings about and inspires morality into the earthly environment.
This is the ancient, philosophical interpretation.
Platonic love is often contrasted with romantic love.
