Peer pressure (or social pressure) is the direct influence on people by peers, or the effect on an individual who gets encouraged to follow their peers by changing their attitudes, values or behaviors to conform to those of the influencing group, club or individual.
Peers of a club influencing their colleague to divorce, bullying or looking down on the people who do not belong to their club, rejecting one’s moral responsibilities for the sake of suiting in into their club.
A group of friends using peer-pressure to influence their friends into taking drugs, having sex with different sexual partners, go to wild parties, taking unnecessary risks etc…
Peer pressure has moved from strictly face-to-face interaction to digital interaction as well.
Social media offers opportunities for adolescents and adults alike to instill and/or experience pressure everyday.
Research suggests that not just individuals but also organizations, such as large corporations, are susceptible to peer pressures, such as pressures from other firms in their industry or headquarters City.
Company boardembers and CEO’s are known for generating peer pressure among their employees with the aim to create a collective response towards the company’s agenda which they want to implement.
