Truth – sorrowful – leads to change – scriptures

Truth makes us sorrowful and also convicts us, so that one may desire to change:
The Sorrow of the gospel leads to repentance:
John 16:6-8
6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you;
but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
The Sorrow of the world is loss of things, God’s wrath, judgement, desolation & death:
John 16:8 –
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Why will the Holy Spirit convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgement?
John 16:9-11:
9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;
11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
2 Corinthians 7:10:
For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
On Pentecost when God gave the Holy Spirit, the signs of His arrival were Conviction, Repentance and batism:
Acts 2:37-39 – cut to heart – conviction:
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
Acts 2:38 – Repentance:
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins;
and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 For the promise is to you and to your children,…
Acts 2:41 – Baptism
41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
Before God answered Hannah’s prayer, she first became sorrowful:
1 Samuel 1:15:
But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit.
I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord.
Before God blessess a person, that person must be in the state of sorrowfulness:
Psalm 69:29:
But I am poor and sorrowful; Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.
Ecclesiastes 2:22-23
22 For what has man for all his labor, and for the striving of his heart with which he has toiled under the sun?
23 For all his days are sorrowful, and his work burdensome; even in the night his heart takes no rest. This also is vanity.
The rich man could not give up his riches after hearing the gospel which made him sorrowful:
Matthew 19:22:
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions
Luke 18:24:
[ With God All Things Are Possible ] And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!
Jeremiah 31:25:
For I have satiated (quench or to fully satisfy) the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.”
Matthew 17:23:
and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.” And they were exceedingly sorrowful.
After the disciples had Finnished listening to their master’s story about betraying and crucifying Him, they became so sorrowful:
Matthew 26:22
And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him, “Lord, is it I?”
Yeshua goes into prayer because of the conviction which came from the state of being sorrowful:
Matthew 26:37
And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.
Matthew 26:38
Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”
Mark 14:19
And they began to be sorrowful, and to say to Him one by one, “Is it I?” And another said, “Is it I?”
What does Sorrowful mean?
feeling or showing grief.
synonyms:
sad, unhappy, dejected, regretful, depressed, downcast, miserable, downhearted, down, despairing, disconsolate, desolate…
John 16:20
Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
God will give a covering (a father -, ability to maintain sorrow)
2 Corinthians 2:2:
For if I make you sorrowful, then who is he who makes me glad but the one who is made sorrowful by me?
2 Corinthians 6:10:
as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
And many people will try to escape their sorrow, by turning a way from their spiritual responsibilities, and instead they will begin to attract preachers that gratifies their own selfish desires:
2 Timothy 4:3:
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine,
but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
The secular world using entertainment, false dreams, hype, music, immoral sex, porn, dancing, intoxicating drugs or alcohol to substitute it with God’s sorrow:
2 Timothy 3:2-4:
2 For men will be lovers of themselves,
lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving,
unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
