noun
Insubordination – defiance of authority; refusal to obey orders.
Insubordination at work is when an employee refuses to obey a direct order from a supervisor.
Insubordinate is the opposite of subordinate.
In a legal aspect, it can also mean willful or intentional disobedience of a lawful and reasonable request by a supervisor.
It may also refer to disrespect or harassment that is directed toward a superior.
2 Peter 2:10:
and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority.
They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries,
Jude 1:8:
Likewise, also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.
In Genesis 18:1-15 & Genesis 19:1-14
Abraham serves and takes care of the angels when they came in his domain,
but when they reached in the domain of Sodom and Gomorrah, the people there wanted to rape them via the act fulfilling their selfish desires, fantasies, and imaginations.
What causes insubordination?
Most managers agree that employee insubordination should never be tolerated, but a smart leader doesn’t react without first looking at the reasons behind the negative behavior.
Because if you going to solve a problem you must first know it’s root.
Here are 4 major causes of insubordination:
1: Stress.
Whether it’s job-related or personal, an overload of stress can cause even the most level-headed person to snap.
If you suspect that stress is the cause of insubordinate behavior, talk to the employee to find out what’s going on and what you can do about it.
The person probably knows what he or she is doing and will appreciate any assistance you can offer.
2: Rebellion.
Employees who feel they’re being treated unfairly may respond with insubordinate tactics—talking back, refusing reasonable directions from supervisors, or slowing their efforts.
Usually, these employees have chosen not to go through the proper channels for addressing the problem.
The relationship may be worth saving.
Find out how they see the situation, decide how accurate their perceptions are, and then remind them of the appropriate course of action.
3: Power:
If you’ve eliminated stress and rebellion from the possibilities, chances are the root cause is a desire for power.
The employee may be testing your limits, seeing how much he or she can get away with.
If the person doesn’t respond to discipline, you’re probably best off terminating him or her (after talking with an attorney or your HR officer)
4: False democracy:
The negative traits of insubordination can also come from the extreme negative behaviors which are expressed by people who claim to be exercising their democratic rights.
Democracy has become the channel through which many negative traits that are caused by the psychological state of Insubordination are expressed, and this can also negatively affect your company or organization structure.
In this case, it’s important to have dialogues in your organization which is aimed at discussing democratic expressions that are unhealthy for your company or organization.
