The death of music superstar Whitney Houston has put her life under a microscope, and there are reports that the singer was flat broke.

The Daily Mail claimed Houston had squandered a $100 million fortune and had to ask her mentor and “great benefactor, Clive Davis, the music mogul who discovered her, for handouts.” 


The paper also says Houston’s homes in New Jersey and Atlanta were in danger of being repossessed.

The singer’s camp previously denied rumors of this ilk, saying they were “false and ridiculous,” according to a report from Forbes.com in January. 


Houston’s rep pointed out that she had starred in a new film, “Sparkle,” with Jordin Sparks, and was paid for her role. The film is scheduled for release in August.

Whitney, who infamously struggled with drugs and alcohol, had been through rehab at least three times, and it is believed she spent much of her earnings supporting her drug habit. 


The “I Will Always Love You” singer recently admitted to doing cocaine “every day” in the 1990s.

Houston, 48, was found dead Saturday in a bathtub in her hotel suite at the Beverly Hilton. 
An autopsy was completed yesterday, but toxicology results will take at least 3-4 weeks.

Whitney’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, arrived to Los Angeles on Sunday night to be with their grieving 18-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina.
