Through oral teachings, the descendants of Abraham, Abraham being the son of Terah, Terah being the grandson who sprang out of the genealogy of Shem (as in Genesis 11:10-27), passed down God’s oral law or spoken commandments via the telling of stories, which were transformed into the written law during the time of Moses.
The written law of God know as the “Torah” was divided up in five different books.
Moses was used by God to write down the old testament in Hebrew as we know it today, the book of Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy were written down by Moses in Hebrew, and from Hebrew the bible was translated into other languages.
