What is the purpose of counting the Omer?
Answer:
We count the Omer for the sake of investigating the inner motives and desires of our emotions.
Some times our emotions can deceive us in thinking and lusting after the things that we really do not need, and through this act; one begins to reject, to resent, to ignore, to condemn and abuse the things and the relationships that he or she really needs.
Through this period of Omer counting , being the 50 days that begins from Passover that falls in April or May (Spring time), and finishes on the day of Pentecost, which falls in the month of June or July (Summer time), we investigate and we also relate our emotions to the relationships and godly activities that will benefit our character in a positive way.
The soul of every human being is made up of seven emotions, and these emotions are like children (narcissism) in nature.
Emotions can be misled or deceived by an environment that contains an influence of negative behaviors (read the article called the 72 demonic expressions), or they can also be structured by an environment of positive influence.
You should remember that through this season of Omer counting according to biblical history, this is when Judas betrayed Yeshua whom the Christians call Jesus.
This is when Peter denied His master Yeshua (Jesus), but this was also the same season when the children of Israel complained against Moses – crying unto him because of the an controllable lust and desires of wanting to eat meat and return to Egypt, as in Exodus 16:1-12.
The written Jewish oral law declares that; Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden tree during this same season (spring time – hebrew month of Nisan).
So for us to be able to overcome these negative influence that comes in this season of spring time, we must involve our emotions into the act of Omer counting.
The Omer counting is a spiritual method as stated in Leviticus 23:15-17 , that helps you to connect your emotions to God’s will, and also be able to eliminate the negative behaviors that may hinder you from relating with the relationships that God wants to you fellowship with.
