The drum is a member of the percussion group of musical instruments.
Drums consist of at least one membrane called a drumhead or drum skin, that is stretched over a shell and struck, either directly with the player’s hands, or with a drum stick, to produce sound.
In the ancient days, drums were used by the Afro -African descendants of Ham to communicate via the art of speaking the language of the drum.
As the art began to cross of to the other races (sons of Noah), drumming beating started to become limited only to the cultural art of entertainment (music and dancing).
The are different types of drums, and each drum is designed to play a specific type of sound.
Drum beating – the language of the drum:
Drums are used not only for their musical qualities, but also as a means of communication over great distances.
The talking drums of Africa are used to imitate the tone patterns of spoken language.
Through the African art of drum beating, different clans or African tribes used to communicate to each other via the act of beating the drum.
The language of the drum, also known as the talking drum was used and still used in some parts of Africa, to communicate messages on a long distance, to stimulate the dancers body’s into the act of moving according to the language of the drum, and to also call upon the gods of the clan that is playing the drum.
