What does the word “law” means in the Bible?
The English biblical word “Law” derives from the Hebrew word known as “Halakah”,
Which means “the way to behave”, “the way of walking” or the path”.
The word derives from the root that means “to behave” (also “to go” or “to walk”).
So when ever you see the word “Law” in the bible, know for sure that it stands for “the way of walking”.
Proverbs 6:23:
For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
Psalm 119
Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the Lord!
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart!
They also do no iniquity; They walk in His ways. …
Isaiah 2:3-4:
3 Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He shall judge or mediate between the nations,
And rebuke many people (settle intertional disputes);
They shall beat their swords into plows hares, And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.
And via the law (Halakah), the roots of the law brings forth different elements of the God’s commandments which are designed by God to deal with,
and to rectify community issues, settle international disputes and structure the 12 systems in a government.
And here below are the other branches which roots out of the law (Halakah) of God:
3: God’s Statutes
4: God’s Ordinances
Exodus 16:28:
And the Lord said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?
Genesis 26:4-5:
4 And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven;
I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;
5 because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”
The angel of God who leads God’s people into His laws (path – way):
Exodus 23:20-21
“Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.
21 Beware of Him and obey His voice;
do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions; for My name is in Him.
