Daniel 5:21-31 – Passover 2020
… the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses.
Proverbs 21:1:
The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.
The arrogance of an evil king is destroyed:
Daniel 5:22-31:
22 “But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this.
23 And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven.
They have brought the vessels of His house before you,
and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them.
And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know;
and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.
24 Then the fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written.
25 “And this is the inscription that was written:
MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
26 This is the interpretation of each word. MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it;
27 TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting;
28 PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.”
29 Then Belshazzar gave the command, and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold around his neck,
and made a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Belshazzar’s Fall:
30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain.
31 And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.
The enemy pursues Israel with the desire of wanting to bring them back into the status of slavery:
The Crossing of the Red Sea:
Exodus 15:9-15:
9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied on them.
I will draw my sword, My hand shall destroy them.’
10 You blew with Your wind, The sea covered them; They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
11 “Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods?
Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
12 You stretched out Your right hand; The earth swallowed them.
13 You in Your mercy have led forth The people whom You have redeemed;
You have guided them in Your strength To Your holy habitation.
The news of God’s miracle (the crossing if the red sea) spreads and vibrates into the four corner of the earth:
Exodus 15:14-15:
14 “The people will hear and be afraid;
Sorrow will take hold of the inhabitants of Philistia.
15 Then the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed;
The mighty men of Moab, Trembling will take hold of them; All the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away.
