Respiratory arrest is a condition that exists at any point a patient stops breathing or is ineffectively breathing.
It often occurs at the same time as cardiac arrest, but not always.
Respiratory arrest is in the catigory of cardiovascular diseases.
What are the signs of respiratory arrest?
Signs and symptoms:
One common symptom of respiratory arrest is cyanosis, a bluish discoloration of the skin resulting from not having enough oxygen in the blood.
If respiratory arrest remains without any treatment, cardiac arrest will occur within minutes of hypoxemia, hypercapnia or both.
During respiratory (or pulmonary) arrest, breathing stops.
During cardiac arrest, blood flow stops.
On a psychological level:
Technically, cardiac arrest means that the heart has stopped beating,
but it’s really assessed by the fact that blood flow is no longer detectable,
even if the heart might still be trying to beat.
On a spiritual level:
This means that the person’s soul (breath or – ability to inhale oxygen and to exhale carbodioxide) has been extracted from his body by the heavenly courtroom.
